Keep It Kells Campaign & Bonanza Draw & Photograph Competition
TRADING in Kells was described as ‘brisk’ in the run-up to Christmas, with initiatives like free parking and the Keep It Kells campaign proving successful.
Kells Chamber President Geraldine Gaughran acknowledged the success of both the free parking and the Chamber’s ‘Keep It Kells’ shopping campaign. She also singled out the Christmas bonanza draw, which saw shoppers benefit from €1,000 of Kells Vouchers in return for shopping locally, and a top prize of €500 was won on Friday December 23rd.
“I’m very pleased with the bonanza draw, which was a joint initiative between the Chamber and the council. Also, the year-round gift vouchers saw over €20,000 bought. It’s going to be another difficult year, obviously, but the big message has got to be 'Keep it Kells'. Let's make 2012 your Shop Local year," said Ms. Gaughran.
The full list of winners is: Stella Farnan (winner of €500 of Kells Shopping Vouchers); Carmel Goggins (€300 of vouchers); Elma Tormey (€100 of vouchers), Janna O’Rourke (€50 of vouchers) and Kathy Emmanuel (€50 of vouchers).
Meanwhile, budding photographer, 13 year old Leon Murphy has been selected as winner of the Keep it Kells Festive Photo Competition. “Leon’s photographs of Kells this Christmas will serve as a wonderful record. He has a great eye and captured what is wonderful and special about so many of Kells’ buildings and streetscape, all beautifully illuminated for the festive period,” said Ms. Gaughran.
Kells Chamber along with Kells Town Council will be presenting the prize of €100 in Kells Gift Voucher to Leon over the coming days - well done, Leon! The Chamber would like to thank all those who submitted entries to the competitons, all of which can be viewed on the Keep it Kells Facebook page.
